Some Intermediate Results

Our research has the following two objectives:

• Develop a new image processing algorithm that processes compressed image data.
• Develop a new data compression method that allows rapid manipulation of compressed data by a given operation.

The steps required to extract feature values from compressed data is summarized in Fig. 1. We were able to extract useful information (feature values) from a JBIG compressed page image and to determine its skew (rotation) angle. A snipped of a skewed page image is shown in Fig. 2. The steps required to modify the given data is summarized in Fig. 3.
