Biography
Dawid Zydek comes from Żywiec, a town in South
Poland. He attended to High School of Electronics in
Żywiec, where he passed the high school graduation exam with the best score in the
school (ranked among 120 students).
In 2000, he started the Master of Science program at the Department of Systems and Computer Networks,
Wrocław University of Technology, Poland. He earned
there his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science with specialization in Computer Systems and Networks.
During his studies, he received three Dean's Awards and he finished studies as the best student in
the College of Electronics in 2005 year (ranked the best among 921 students graduating that year). For that
achievement he was decorated with the Provost's Award. During the last two years of his studies he
was employed as IT Specialist and Part-time Instructor in the Department, where he conducted research
and taught undergraduate classes. Dawid was a co-founder and for two years he had served as
Vice-President of Student's Science Association for Computers and Systems. He is currently the
Honorable Member of the association. He was also a member of the Organizing Committee of the
Student Scientific Conferences and Polish-British Workshops, where currently he is a member of
International Steering Committee.
In the academic year 2004/2005, Dawid spent six months working and studying at the Control Theory and
Application Centre, Coventry University, UK, where he
successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) program in Systems and Control.
In 2005, Dawid joined Information Management Group
(Currently S&T Group) where he was IT Support Team Leader. Dawid built up and was managing central
helpdesk for all European employees of the company (600 employees). He was involved in and
responsible for many projects, e.g. data center reallocation from Switzerland to Poland and software
distribution projects.
In 2007, Dawid joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at
University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA. He earned his Ph.D.
in Electrical Engineering (Computer Engineering major) in 2010. He was awarded the Outstanding
Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Student Award (ranked among 96 students). During his
studies, he received two Bally Technologies Scholarships. He worked as Part-time Instructor and
handled independently two computer engineering related courses every semester. He was involved in
many research projects and proposal writing in the Department. Dawid was also member of the
Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Systems Engineering, where currently he is a
member of the Program Committee.
In 2008, Dawid was employed by NV Energy as a Student
Intern. He was responsible for the administration and maintenance of Energy Management System.
In the academic year 2010/2011, Dawid was a Systems Administrator in the College of Engineering at
University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he took care of
research and networking infrastructure.
In 2011, Dawid joined Electrical Engineering Department at Idaho
State University where he was Assistant Professor. His appointment was joined between the University
and the Center for Advanced Modeling and Simulation, Idaho
National Laboratory. He taught computer science and electrical engineering courses on campuses
in Pocatello and Idaho Falls. He was a member of Curriculum, Promotion and Tenure; and Assessment
Committees in the Department. He was involved in many research projects, e.g. General-Purpose
computing on Graphics Processing Units and Chip MultiProcessors projects.
In 2014, Dawid has joined NV Energy as Senior Consultant for
Electric System Control Center. Since 2017, Dawid is a Supervisor in Demand Side Management Technical Services group.
Dawid Zydek is an IEEE Member. The results of his research have been presented in many international
conferences and journals.
Dawid is married to Monika and he has two sons, Pascal and Parker.
